- Information from Netty (Annette) Cove via email:
I have known your name for many years in my visits and connection with Salcombe and it was recently suggested I contact you after I contacted the Salcombe Town Council with my request - they had only later local knowledge.
I am interested in trying to find the location of the house my great grandparents (Henry Philips Cove and Annie Cove, nee King) lived and where my grandfather (Henry Edgar Cove) was born and lived prior to moving to Island House. The name of the house was Kingston Villa..........but on a "calling card" I have from my Great Grandmother it only has the house name and no road name. I would really appreciate any information you might have as I was hoping to take some pictures when I next visit Salcombe. My grandfather's brother emigrated to the States when he was a young man and his daughter (now aged 91) living in the States, would really like to see house in which he was born. I am sure I knew it when I was younger - possibly Devon Road, but I cannot be sure and would really like to know the road and whether the actual house even exists anymore. If it does, I have to presume the name has changed as I have been unable to locate it.
I am grateful for any information you might have. I live in the United but visit England quite often and just enjoyed a wonderful week in Salcombe in September. The Town Clerk was kind enough to give me your contact and I did share with her that on their website, in the history of Salcombe - an interesting article - I noticed an error. In their penultimate paragraph it mentions Cooks boatyard but all that follows, the location, the admiralty contract, the apartment building - all refer to the fact it should be the Cove boatyard. Cooks boatyard was, I believe, on Whitestrand. I hoping they will correct it!!
